Ocean
Township Schools Selected to Participate in the
Rutgers
University Bullying Prevention Institute
The Township of Ocean School District is one of twelve districts
in New Jersey that has been selected to participate in the 2011-2012 pilot year
of the Bullying Prevention Institute (BPI). This new and exciting training
initiative is provided by the Center for Applied Psychology at the Rutgers
University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology.
This project aims to help districts develop customized bullying
prevention plans that align local practices with the new anti-bullying legal
requirements. The goal of the district's participation is to design a
sustainable set of strategies that aim to reduce incidents of harassment,
intimidation, and bullying. The project also strives to promote a positive
school climate where students and adults feel safe and respected.
Ocean Township's Bullying Prevention Leadership Team includes Gina
Hagerman, OTHS Assistant Principal; Cassie Della Pesca,
OTHS Teacher of Physical Education; Robin Bauer, TOIS PTA President; Victor
Milano, Principal, Wanamassa; Candy Vasta, TOIS Assistant Principal; and Laura Macaluso, OTHS / TOIS Guidance Counselor.
The team leader for the project is Marion Conrad, Assistant
Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
Participation in this project emphasizes our district's commitment
to a safe and emotionally secure climate for all of our students.
Congratulations to Mrs. Conrad and the Bullying Prevention
Leadership Team for this outstanding accomplishment!
